Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup oil
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup coffee
  • one batch buttercream frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×9 square pan and set aside.
  2. Measure all your dry ingredients into a medium sized bowl. Using a whisk, combine them thoroughly.
  3. In a large bowl attached to a stand mixer, beat the eggs with the oil until combined, then add in the remaining wet ingredients.
  4. Combine all the ingredients for 2 minutes on low speed, scraping the sides as needed.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Tap the pan lightly on the counter to release any trapped air bubbles and then place into the oven.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes OR until a cake tester/toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  7. Remove and cool for 5 minutes in the pan, then flip onto a cooling rack or plate.
  8. Once cooled completely, prepare and frost with my buttercream icing recipe.

Notes

  • This cake is best served chilled and pairs well with vanilla ice cream.
