Description

Delicious cruffins filled with cream, custard, fruit preserves, chocolate chips, jam, cheese, or herbs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Fillings of choice (e.g., cream, custard, fruit preserves, chocolate chips, jam, cheese, herbs)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of warm milk and 2 teaspoons of sugar. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with 1/4 cup of melted unsalted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, approximately 1/4 inch thick. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle generously with sugar and your choice of fillings.
  5. Cut the dough into long strips, then roll each strip tightly from one end to the other. Place these rolls upright in greased muffin tins, allowing them to fill and rise again for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the cruffins for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Let the cruffins cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and enjoy your delicious creations!
