Deliciously rich and fudgy chocolate brownies made with almond butter and unsweetened applesauce.
Ingredients

- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2/3 cup almond butter
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons coconut sugar (or brown sugar substitute)
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 1 cup healthy frosting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180C/350F. Line an 8 x 8-inch pan with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the applesauce, almond butter, and maple syrup and whisk together until smooth.
- Add the coconut sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and vanilla extract and mix until just combined.
- Fold through the chocolate chips.
- Transfer the batter into the lined pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a skewer comes out mostly clean.
- Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool completely, before adding the optional frosting.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of espresso powder.
- Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
