Description
A delicious and creamy baked cabbage dish, topped with parmesan cheese for an extra flavor boost.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 medium green cabbage
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 shallots, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup vegetable or chicken broth
- 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Cut cabbage into thick wedges, about 1 to 2 inches wide, leaving the core intact.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear each cabbage wedge on both cut sides until golden brown. Set aside.
- In the same skillet, add garlic and shallots. Cook until soft and fragrant.
- Add tomato paste and cook for 1–2 minutes. Then stir in the cream and broth. Simmer until slightly thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Pour some sauce into a baking dish. Place seared cabbage wedges on top. Spoon remaining sauce over the cabbage.
- Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 minutes until cabbage is tender.
- Uncover, sprinkle with parmesan cheese, and broil for 3–5 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Use fresh parsley as a garnish for enhanced flavor and presentation.
- Make sure to keep an eye on the broiling step to prevent the cheese from burning.
